Consider these easy steps to clean and maintain your folding patio door systems:

Track and Frame Cleaning:
·         For those of you who have your exterior folding doors in a coastline environment, remember to protect against salt deposit damage. That means a weekly cleaning of the doors, washing down with fresh water, to prevent salt deposit build up.
·         For track cleaning, we recommend using a small brush (an old toothbrush is ideal) to loosen any debris from the track, and then using a vacuum to pick up all of the dirt and particles remaining.
·         A light application of grease or oil (both free from acid base, and just a small application of either) can maintain smooth sliding and folding operation.
·         For frame and seal cleaning, you can use either a mild soap solution with soft micro-fiber cloths, or non-abrasive liquid cream cleaners, or waxed based cleaning solutions.
·         Avoid heavy duty household cleaners, solvent based solutions, and scouring pads.
·         Then, for those folding doors with gaskets and seals, you will want to apply either a silicone spray, grease stick application, or wax based lubricant every summer and winter, to keep all of the sealing material soft and supple.

Cleaning the Glass Panels:
·         If you recall the 1950″s and 1960’s, you remember cleaning glass with newspaper. That still is a way to clean your folding door glass panels, leaving them streak free.
·         With newspaper becoming a rare household item now, choose soft cotton or micro-fiber cloths over paper towels for streak-free cleaning.
·         The popular “1-part-white-vinegar-to-4 parts-water” cleaning solution is still effective.
·         But if the smell of vinegar doesn’t appeal to you, then the equally popular soap and water would be your option. (keep the soap ratio low, to avoid those extra rubbing to eliminate the unbecoming “soap streaks”.
